Vincent Micallef & Associates operates from Valletta, Malta’s Capital City, where its offices are housed. Based on the vast experience of its members, the Firm’s mission is to provide its clients with pristine service based on the value of experience in those areas of the law in which each member professes.

The Firm’s practice ranges from litigation to consultancy, corporate and advisory services. It handles a vast array of cases before the Superior Courts and other judicial or quasi judicial bodies. Each of the Firms Department is manned by advocates of the highest caliber, carefully selected at the end of successful traineeships, which are offered by the practice on a regular basis. The firm is also assisted by inhouse Notaries and Legal Procurator, as well as by a number of external consultants.

Dr Vincent Micallef

Managing Partner

Dr Vincent Micallef was called to the bar in 2007 after reading law locally. His academic qualifications comprise a Bachelor of Arts in Legal and Humanistic Studies, a Diploma of Notary Public and a Doctoral Degree in Law.

His Doctoral thesis, “Inter-War Aviation Legislation in Malta 1918-1939”, aimed at surveying the development of Aviation Law in Malta recalling the culmination of the First World War, i.e. 1918 down to the commencement of World War II, 1939. It was seen against a wider historical background and rivets on the various pieces of legislation enacted under the dominance of the British Empire for the various Colonies, Protectorates as well as Mandated Territories.

Dr Stephanie Abela

Senior Partner

Dr Stephanie Abela was admitted to the local bar in 2015 after reading law at the University of Malta. Her academic qualifications include a Bachelor of Laws with European Studies, Diploma of Notary Public and a Doctoral Degree in Law.

Her Doctoral thesis dealt with the recently enacted Embryo Protection Act (Chapter 524 of the Laws of Malta). In her thesis she focused on the bioethical values that were at the centre of debate at the time. These were examined within the context of fundamental rights and freedoms with particular emphasis on women, the unborn fetuses, also exploring principle of access to and availability of IVF.

Dr Jacob Daniel Portelli

Partner

Dr Jacob Daniel Portelli was called to the bar in 2020 after having read law both locally, as well as in the United Kingdom. During his time at University, he interned with Vincent Micallef and Associates, assisting in criminal, family and civil law matters. He later joined E&S Group, an international multi-disciplinary firm assisting with legal matters in the Commercial, Company, Maritime, Aviation and iGaming industries. He also assisted the firm with business development matters.

Jacob holds a Bachelor of Laws with Honours and a Master of Advocacy degree from the University of Malta. He completed his studies with a legal paper on Investor Protection in Financial Services.

The Act merges the trust instrument to a Civil Law jurisdiction. The Trusts and Trustees Act has also made possible the recognition in Malta of trusts whose proper law is not the domestic framework; this by giving force of law to the Hague Convention on the Law Applicable to Trusts and on their Recognition of 1985.
