Dr Vincent Micallef was called to the bar in 2007 after reading law locally. His academic qualifications comprise a Bachelor of Arts in Legal and Humanistic Studies, a Diploma of Notary Public and a Doctoral Degree in Law.

His Doctoral thesis, “Inter-War Aviation Legislation in Malta 1918-1939”, aimed at surveying the development of Aviation Law in Malta recalling the culmination of the First World War, i.e. 1918 down to the commencement of World War II, 1939. It was seen against a wider historical background and rivets on the various pieces of legislation enacted under the dominance of the British Empire for the various Colonies, Protectorates as well as Mandated Territories.

Dr Micallef’s career commenced in the Legal Office of the Malta Police Force where he formed part of the prosecution’s and advisory team of the Force’s legal affairs, being also in charge of a number of prosecutions before the apposite Courts of Justice. Dr Micallef also lectured in the fields of Criminal Law, Human Rights’ Law and Juvenile Law at the Academy for Criminal Justice. He also represented the Malta Police Force in Belgium, Brussels under the auspices of Europol.

Strengthening the foundation of his professional career, Dr Micallef today professes in the fields of Criminal Law and Civil Law, which Department within Vincent Micallef & Associates he heads. In the process, he gained a wealth of experience in various areas of the law and the complex justice system.

In 2010, Dr Micallef amplified his practice to include the specific fields of Business and Commercial Law. He has acquired extensive experience in these areas of practice and works hand in hand with other renowned partners with international background and experience that provide domestic and international business, tax and company services.

He currently serves on the Boards of several corporations. In addition Dr Micallef is Chairman of the Social Security Appeals Board, Vice-Chairman of the Board to Investigate Corrupt Practices of the Malta Football Association, Commissioner for Justice, Secretary to the Board of Directors of the Malta Council for Science and Technology, Secretary to the Board of Directors of the Mediterranean Offshore Bunkering Company Limited, Chairperson of the Government Formulary List Advisory Appeals Committee, Director on the Board of Directors of the Water Services Corporation (W.S.C.) and Committee Member of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman and Degrading Treatment or Punishment in Strasbourg, France.

Dr Micallef advised and provided consultancy to the Government of Malta with respect to the privatization of the former Malta Ship Building site, consultancy to the Government of Malta with respect to the process of the land reclamation international initiative in Malta and consultancy to the Valletta 2018 Foundation.

Dr Micallef is a member of the Chamber of Advocates, the Local Bar Association and also serves as examiner within the Faculty of Laws at the University of Malta.
